Wycombe parents take “Future Steps” to employability training
The Millbrook Children’s Centre, High Wycombe is the current location for the latest “Building Futures” initiative.
The “Future Steps” program gives lone parents the opportunity to meet others in similar circumstances, develop friendships and work towards training. The ultimate goal is to gain qualifications that would improve their chances of getting into work.
The project is run by a collaborative partnership between Building Futures, Adviza and Bucks County Council Wellbeing Team.
A crèche facility is available as part of the service, allowing the parents to learn and take part in a number of activities that would improve their jobs prospects. The project has a relaxed atmosphere where participants are coached at their own pace.
The participants meet once a week to engage in a number of life skills and work related workshops and activities including:
Stay & Play,
Get To know You
Parenting & Barriers To Work
Benefits Advice
Budgeting Session
Food Hygiene Certificate

Don’t just take our word for it, this is what a recent participant had to say:
“It is an opportunity many people don’t realise is here!
It has been great to listen to others and share parenting advice and tips!
Great for people wanting to return to work. Initially I was not particularly motivated to start, however I am really enjoying the program. The mentoring service is useful and it’s all free. We have outside people coming in to help and advise us. Great for various ages and for everyone”
